If you are a first-time home buyer in Malta, the government has created an exclusive programme to help you get on the property ladder. The First Time Buyers’ Scheme offers reduced or waived stamp duty charges on the purchase of your first residential or investment property, whether you choose to use your own funding or a bank loan.
Under this scheme, no stamp duty is charged on the first €200,000 of a property’s price, saving you up to €7,000. If the property exceeds €200,000, a reduced 5% stamp duty is charged on the remaining value. For instance, a property purchased at €250,000 will only incur a stamp duty charge of €2,500.
